How do I publish my web content using FrontPage 2000?

There are two ways to manage your web site content with FrontPage 2000. You can connect directly to your web site and make changes while your Internet connection is open. You can also maintain a local copy of your web site on your computer and connect to the Internet and publish changes to your web site from your local copy.

Opening your web site directly with FrontPage 2000 . . .

  1. If you are using a modem to gain access to the Internet, open a connection before you continue to step 2.

  2. Open FrontPage 2000. From the menu, click File and then Open Web... The Open Web dialog will appear.

  3. In the Folder Name: field, type http://12.32.115.86/ and click the Open button. Once your domain goes live on the Internet, you will also be able to enter http://exclusivejewelry.com to open your web site.

  4. Depending on the current state of your connection, you may or may not be prompted with the Enter Network Password dialog. If so, enter test in the User name: field and test in the Password: field, and click the OKbutton. After a short pause for authentication, the Open Web dialog will re-appear. Again, click the Open button.

  5. After a short pause to load the structure of your web site, the folder list will appear and you are ready to begin work on your web site. When you add a new page or save changes to existing pages while directly connected to your web site, the changes will appear immediately on the Internet.

Publishing a local copy of your web site to the server with FrontPage 2000 . . .

  1. Open FrontPage 2000. From the menu, click File and then Open Web... The Open Web dialog will appear.

  2. Select the local copy web site from the list of previous connections, or type the name of the local copy web site in the Folder Name: field and click the Open button. Your web site will open and the folder list will appear.

  3. If you are using a modem to gain access to the Internet, open a connection before you continue to step 4.

  4. From the menu, click File and then Publish Web... The Publish Web dialog will appear.

  5. In the Specify the location to publish your web to: field, type http://12.32.115.86 and click the Publish button. Once your domain goes live on the Internet, you will also be able to enter http://exclusivejewelry.com to publish your web site.

  6. Depending on the current state of your connection, you may or may not be prompted with the Name and Password Required dialog. If so, enter test in the Name: field and test in the Password: field, and click the OKbutton. After a short pause for authentication, the Microsoft FrontPage dialog will appear.

  7. The Microsoft FrontPage dialog will display a progress bar as the local copy is published to your web site. Depending on whether files on the web server already existed with the same names as on your local copies, you may or may not be prompted with the Do you want to overwrite this file? dialog. If so, click the Yes to All button to continue and overwrite the web site files with your local copies.

  8. Wait for the process to completely finish. When completed, another Microsoft FrontPage dialog will appear displaying Web site published successfully!. The content on your web site is now updated to reflect your local copies on the Internet.
